Confirm the specification first
Final size, page count, paper and structure should be agreed before exporting production files. For boxes, ask for the approved dieline. For book covers, ask for the template based on the final spine and construction.
Check bleed and safe areas
Extend background artwork into the agreed bleed area. Keep essential text and graphics within the safe area. Use the factory’s requirements for your specific product rather than applying one setting to every file.
Check images and fonts
Review image quality at the final printed size. Check for missing fonts, unexpected substitutions and unintentional transparency effects. Follow the requested PDF export and font handling settings.
Agree on color handling
Ask for the required color space and any proofing or color-management instructions. Do not convert artwork repeatedly without knowing the requested settings. Identify spot colors or decorative treatments clearly when they are part of the agreed specification.
Keep versions and approval clear
Use descriptive file names and identify the final approved version. Check spelling, page order, card orientation and dieline alignment. Record which proof was approved and ask how subsequent changes affect the schedule.
Plan your next print project.
