PRINT KNOWLEDGE

Which box structure fits your product?

Compare lid-and-base rigid boxes, drawer boxes and folding cartons before preparing artwork.

01

Start with the contents

Record the product dimensions, weight and number of items. Include the space needed for inserts or protective packing. Distinguish internal usable dimensions from the external size of the finished box.

02

Lid-and-base rigid boxes

A separate lid and base can provide a structured presentation. Lid depth, clearance, board and wrap affect fit and feel. A sample should be checked with the actual contents, not just measured while empty.

03

Drawer boxes

A sliding tray moves inside an outer sleeve. Discuss opening direction, clearance, a ribbon or notch, and how the product is removed. Allow for the insert and the material layers when confirming internal dimensions.

04

Folding cartons

A paperboard carton relies on folds, flaps and its closure arrangement. Discuss the bottom construction around product weight and assembly needs. Confirm whether the order will be supplied flat or assembled.

05

Design after the structure is agreed

Use the final approved dieline for artwork. Keep text clear of trim and fold areas, and respect glue areas. Decorative treatments should be confirmed against the selected material and production method.
